Payment Capture Preference
Select the Payment Capture setting you would like to use:
- Capture payments automatically – the customer’s card is authorized and captured automatically. The customer will be charged at the time of the order.
- Manually capture payment – the customer’s card is authorized, requiring you to manually capture the payment later. A temporary hold is placed on the customer’s card, the amount will only be charged when you manually capture it. To receive a notification when an authorization is about to expire, select the option Email me when an authorization is about to expire.
Which payment capture option should I choose?
This will depend on several factors. The majority of shops choose to Capture payments automatically as it can streamline the ordering process because manual payment capture is not required. However, if you sell high risk or high-value goods, you may choose to Manually capture payment to ensure only legitimate customers are charged.
