Creating a promotion

To create a promotion, complete the following steps:

  1. Go to Promotions

  2. Click the Add Promotion button

  3. Configure the following information, as desired:

    • Title - refers to the name of the promotion.
    • Status - refers to the On or Off status of the promotion.
  4. To add promotion rules, open the Promotion Rules setting and select Add Rule.

  5. When the Add Rules dialog opens enter a Name for the promotion rule and select either discount a percentage or discount a fixed amount.

  6. Using the promotion type drop-down menu, select one of the following:

    • Discount entire order - the whole order including shipping will be discounted. Tax is calculated on the discounted order value.
    • Discount individual order items - only the items in an order are discounted. Shipping will not be discounted. If your shipping is based on the value of an order, the shipping charge will be reduced indirectly.
    • Discount shipping price - only the shipping charges in the order will be discounted.
  7. In the Trigger and Exception sections, select either And or Or. When And is selected all rules must be met to be eligible or ineligible for a discount. When Or is selected, any of the rules must be met to be eligible or ineligible for a discount.

  8. Select Add Trigger or Add Exception. Select one of the following trigger types and configure the trigger or exception conditions:

    • Order total
    • Orders
    • Item belongs to category.
    • Item is product
    • Item is variant
    • Order has item from category
    • Order has product
    • Order has variant
    • Customer belongs to group
    • Shipping provider is
  9. When you have completed configuring the promotion rules, select the Add Rule button to add the rule to the promotion. Repeat these steps if you would like to add multiple rules to the promotion.

  10. Configure the Usage Restrictions setting if you would like a usage limit per customer, usage limit per order or a coupon usage limit.

  11. Configure the Scheduling setting to set a start and expiry date for the promotion.

  12. Select Save to save the promotion.

Note: We suggest using a descriptive title with a predefined format to help identify and diagnose promotions and promotion rules, especially if you have a large number of promotions. For instance, you could use ‘Name - Country Code - Value - Expiry’ (Halloween - US - 40% - 121020).
